Staff Accountant (Full-Time Position)

The Palmetto Breeze Staff Accountant supports the effective and efficient operation of the Finance Department by maintaining current and accurate accounting records for all LRTA financial transactions in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Government Accounting Standard Board (GASB), federal, state and LRTA policies and procedures, in addition to performing additional tasks as assigned.


A minimum of an associate degree in accounting (or a closely related field) is required; with five years of related experience and/or training preferred. Transit Experience is a plus! Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, etc. is required. Accounting software is Incode/Tyler Technologies, experience preferred. Apply Online Here.

Supervisors (Full-Time Positions)

Under the general supervision of the Director of Operations, the Palmetto Breeze Transit Supervisors are responsible for the coordination and direction of vehicle operational activities of the routes by performing the following duties personally or with the assistance of others. Position is a working supervisor’s position, meaning that work involves hands-on responsibilities for vehicle operational activities as well as driving.

  • Responsible for the assignment of a driver to each piece of scheduled or non-scheduled service performed by bus and van drivers if any changes are required.

  • Responsible for the assignment of a bus or van to each element of service if any changes are required.

  • Monitor communication system to determine if drivers start and end the service as scheduled, assist drivers with correcting service interruptions and road calls.

  • Ensures that the pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections are completed on vehicles (on the tablets with Transit Check or on the paper form), which includes checking: gas, oil, coolant, tires, lights, brakes, steering, and other safety related items before departure from base, or remote location.  Documents and reports deficiencies as per agency policy.

  • Monitor each driver’s performance for on-time operation, safety, courtesy, fare collection, trip reporting for miles traveled, passenger counts, fuel and oil consumption, vehicle condition reports, CDL and uniform compliance. 

  • Assist with investigation of all accidents or incidents as directed by the Director of Operations and/or the Safety Manager and notify immediately regarding accidents and incidents, takes pictures and make necessary reports.

  • Supervise and assist drivers with checking, adding and reporting fuel and oil consumption. 

  • Remove and replace revenue vaults, transport vaults and revenue as necessary, distribute tickets as required. 

  • Ability to maintain a variety of clerical records: such as those required in accident and incident reports. 

  • Drive routes and transport passengers.

  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director or their designee. 



  • Must be 21 years of age or older.

  • Must pass a DOT Motor Carrier Physical as prescribe in Part 391.43 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. Must be a commercial licensed vehicle operator with passenger endorsement for three years and have had no serious moving violations on record. 

  • Must be physically and emotionally able and willing to assist persons with disabilities and special needs that the agency transports on a regular basis.

  • Must be able to work varying hours between 4:00 AM and 11:00 PM or as assigned but will normally work a set schedule.

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 

  • One to three years related experience and/or professional training in the use and operation of wheelchair lifts, accident procedures, radio codes/call signals; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

  • Must possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger Endorsement. Must obtain certificates in Defensive Driving, Customer Service, Blood Borne Pathogens, CPR & First Aid, Safety Training, and Passenger Sensitivity after employment with Palmetto Breeze. Must keep all certificates above current.

Diesel Mechanic/Maintenance Technician (Full-Time Position)

Palmetto Breeze is currently offering a $5,000 Sign-On BONUS for a qualified Diesel Mechanic.



  • High school diploma or equivalent, and minimum 3-5 years of diesel maintenance and diagnostics experience; or any combination of relevant education and experience

  • Must be at least 21 years of age

  • Possess a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), or have ability to obtain CDL-Class B Permit within 90 days

  • Possess basic computer skills

  • Possess stable and verifiable work history, with exceptional record of attendance and punctuality

  • Ability to bend, kneel, stoop and stand for long periods of time on concrete surfaces. Ability to perform lifting tasks up to 75 lbs.

  • Pass Department of Transportation (DOT) physical and back screen, drug screen, and complete a background check



  • Regular and predictable performance of essential job functions.

  • Use diagnostic tools to troubleshoot and diagnose fleet vehicle.

  • Perform fleet vehicle inspections, overhauls, major and minor repairs, as well as monitoring/completing on-going regular scheduled maintenance.

  • Ensure fleet vehicles are in safe, working order when placed in service, and free of mechanical defects.

  • Respond to emergency road-calls and troubleshoot in the field.

  • Utilize effective time management skills in performing and completing assigned work orders.

  • Adhere to all safety regulations, policies and procedures.

  • Maintain a safe work environment and clean work area.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

Bus Operators (Full- and Part-Time Positions):

Palmetto Breeze is currently hiring drivers!  Must have a valid CDL Class B with passenger endorsement.  Applicants must be able to pass a background check and drug screen.  Full-time employees are eligible for great state health/retirement plan benefits.  $1,000 Sign-On BONUS available for Full-Time Commuter Operator Positions.

Non-CDL Driver (Part-Time Position):

Palmetto Breeze is currently hiring for a part-time Non-CDL driver. Driving experience with accessible vehicles is a plus. The person in this position must be able to assist passengers with mobility issues. Applicants must be able to pass a background check and drug screen.

We are looking for a Driver to transport clients in a comfortable, safe and timely manner. Driver responsibilities include keeping their vehicle clean. Operating each route based on the schedule displayed on-board the tablet.  Ultimately, you will help us increase customer satisfaction, making sure clients depend on us for their transportation needs. To be considered for this role, you should have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record with no traffic violations.


  • Pick up clients from the place and at the time they’ve requested

  • Collect payments 

  • Assist clients with loading and unloading mobility devices

  • Answer clients’ questions about the area and local places of interest

  • Ensure the vehicle is clean and comfortable for all riders
